I have had this one for years and its probably my favorite cap. I love the jaunty look that the NCO was going for, no chinstrap and only minimal signs of it ever having one. Its a pretty great cap. Matt

nice cap ! but it's not a textbook "crusher" or "Alter Art" that is a simple Pre war or begining contract cap.

I'm thinking of banning the word "crusher" on this forum! ..and also of creating a separate thread for "Feldmuetzen Alter Art". This is a cool cap Matt but it's not one of the above. Is there any evidence of chinstrap button holes or button sewing? If not, that's very rare with an issued cap like this.

Is there any evidence of chinstrap button holes or button sewing? If not, that's very rare with an issued cap like this. Never said it was a "crusher", I said "crusher like". It does not have the leather bill and its a EM/NCO cap that has been worked by that soldier to present the similar appearance of a "crusher". It is not bendable or foldable etc, I understand all of this. The only variation I am missing in my collection of PzGrn headgear is the elusive "alter art" cap or "crusher" depending on your choice of words, that said to fill that category it would need to have the flexible body to the cap and the leather or visor. The only Panzergrenadier piped old style fieldcap I'm aware of is the one in Sack's book, Exotische.
I guess that has much to do with fact that they were already long phased out by the time PzGrn units were formed in 42/43.

Not sure what colour piping this Officer from Panzergrenadier Lehr Regiment in Normandy, 1944, is wearing (far right) but it's worth researching. He's wearing a style of cap that no one knows much about. By that I mean a regular schirmmuetze, vulcanfiber visor etc but with the old style fieldcap insignia and obviously no cords. I've yet to find any official designation for this style. Attachments:

Ben,
I just couldn't justify the 9K for the one that I was offered a year or two ago, I believe I sent you pics of it. Just something about it that didn't tick all the boxes for me I know who has it currently and its posted on the WAF in my PzGrn thread. One was offered by PVL that looked quite promising and I missed it by only a few minutes. Its the only style I do not have in my collection of PzGrn caps..
As for the photo, killer image. I would bet its PzGrn green pipped. Its likely just a visor like mine posted above, with chinstrap removed to give it that old school Alter Art look. That would be my bet if I was a betting man, that said I have been wrong before (my wife would tell you all the time).
Also going to have to hit you up when I get over to Germany next month. I know the wife wants to get to GB at some point while we are stationed in Europe, so I may have to hit you up. Matt

9K is a ridiculous price even for a Pz Gren piped OSF cap.

Yeah man I just couldn't justify it. The one that was sold by PVL went for around 4k which was spendy but I could live with that. 9.5k... yeah no thanks man. Matt
