Lets get a thread on this. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but how many visor are out there with the synthetic type pipping? I love this type of pipping and am always looking to add examples of caps with this type of pipping. I have always assumed it was rather early but would love to hear the far more experienced guys thoughts on this. Here is my example. Matt

I know there has to be more out there! I missed out on a Pz one a couple of years ago with this type of pipping. Matt

The pipping is rayon if I am not mistaken, same thing you see on shoulder boards... Anyone else have any of these caps with this type of pipping? Matt

I know rayon piping is quite rare, I think I remember seeing a few before. But I can't find any photos of them on my computer.

Pat,
yeah it seems to be quite uncommon... I missed out on a Pz one and I'm still a bit butt hurt about it. I try to buy these whenever I come across them as they are just that hard to find. Hopefully someone else has a few lying around and will post them. Matt

Great examples! I know Bill Shea has a Inf em/nco cap with the rayon pipping. They just have a great look about them. Matt

Not to be too anal about it but Rayon is a "semi-synthetic" fiber because it's mostly generated from wood pulp. For reasons that have yet to be explained, far more SS caps with rayon piping are still around these days than from the Heer or Luftwaffe. Here's one from the Luftwaffe however that used to belong to a member of the HG Division. Not the best photos, sorry! I can't actually find this cap since I moved house..

Just so you all know, I'm hoping to create separate sticky threads on interesting topics like this in the long run.
The idea is build a database that will be the "go to" resource for all things related to German caps.
These things take up a lot of time and effort though.

I know how that feels Ben, i had a terrific M43 in beautiful condition minus insignia, fantastic lining, no moths or tracking, stitching nice and tight, no marks or dirt, do you think i can find it, its been driving me mad for years, got a funny feeling that one of my sons friends could well be the cause, but i would definately search high and low for that beauty of a LW
