This is a another area which is somewhat murky due to the fact that (who else?) Janke uses fluted undersides to his leather visors. Another "complicating" factor is that many BRD Bundesmarine visors utilized fluted undersides (and have been subsequently "Nazified"). However, fluted all-leather visors were used, going back at least to the Weimar republic, if not the Imperial era. To start off, here are some Jankes:

Post-war BRD-BM that has been Nazified. ( I have yet to see what I consider to be an original TR KM visor with a fluted underside--most are either plain or a leatherette finish)

Fluted underside to an all-leather LW-HG visor. (I have not seen this one in person).

This one was an odd one, in that it has a smooth wool band in lieu of the ribbed mohair (it could be a Luftschutz body that was utilized by the haberdasher for LW, or a L-S member who transferred to the LW). In any event, the body is real:

Anyway, what I am looking for are more examples of KR/Weimar/TR leather visors with fluted undersides, so if you run across any, please post in this thread. (& please, no more Jankes or BRD conversions!)

Great thread, thanks Stonemint!
I guess it comes down to another gun show misnomer that all fluted visors must be post war manufacture. It's certainly true that a lot of them are but we should definitely not throw the baby out with the bath water..
